Named for a warrior graven image in Suomi mythology, Turisas are a heavy metallic element band whose music is an ambitious blend of symphonic alloy, power metallic component, liberalist rock-and-roll, and Finnish kinsfolk euphony. Turisas were formed in Hämeenlinna, a rural community in southern Finland, by singer Warlord Nygård and guitarist/bassist Jussi Wickström in 1997. Aegir to perform their songs that blended pagan folklore with bloody tales of war, Nygård and Wickström recruited triad likeminded musicians, percussionist Tude Lehtonen, keyboardist Antti Ventola, and guitarist Georg Laakso, plainly the epic-scale sound they sought-after proved hard to fascinate on tape measure, and Turisas' kickoff exertion at recording an record album, 1998's Taiston Draw (aka "The Conflict Itinerary"), never proverb pure tone ending due to the group's dissatisfaction with the results.
